he 49ers got going early. Mostert took a handoff on the first play, zipped outside and took off down the right sideline untouched for an 80-yard score. They went on to an easy win, a costly one thought.
Garoppolo’s situation is a bit more serious. His injury happened on the 49ers first offensive drive, he was sacked by Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and went to the ground awkwardly. He finished the half and went 14-of-16 for 131 yards and two touchdowns for a passer rating of 140.4. Halftime X-rays revealed a high ankle sprain and Garoppolo did not return to the game, with Nick Mullens taking over on San Francisco’s first drive of the second half.
Injuries were the name of the game as both the 49ers and Jets suffered a substantial amount of injuries on Sunday.
The 49ers lost both Bosa and Thomas on their D-Line in the first quarter with knee injuries. Bosa was folded over at the end of a play and fell to the ground holding his knee. The next play, Thomas fell to the turf and was immediately tended to in the middle of the field. Both were carted off and will be further examined as the team travels to West Virginia.
